Drug Drop Box

Unwanted or unused medications kept at home may make you a target of thieves looking to fuel their drug habit or family members trying to take advantage of you.  We know it is easy for old medications to pile up, especially after you have recovered from a serious illness.

In early 2015, the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office installed a Prescription Drug Drop Box.  Citizens are allowed to come into the ACSO 24/7 and dispose of unused or unwanted prescription drugs.  There are no questions asked during the disposal of the medication, we only ask not to include any needles, liquids or glass.  The drug box is a metal mail box style container, secured behind multiple locked doors.

We strongly encourage participation in this program and feel it will help limit the access to medication by thieves or family members.  We do not recommend flushing the medication down the toilet or throwing it in the trash.

Since Jan, 2015 the ACSO has collected and disposed of 112 lbs of unwanted/unused medications.
